The Company’s Investment in R&D Yields Award-Winning Technologies
Santa Clara, CA—November 14, 2017—Atypon, home to more than 40% of the world’s journal content and the fastest-growing technology company in the scholarly and professional publishing industry, has been honored by EContent magazine as a trendsetter in digital publishing for the second year in a row.
The award was based on the magazine’s review of unique features of Atypon’s online publishing platform, Literatum, including the new Atypon eReader, the first EPUB eReader to support both books and journals; Atypon Insights, the platform’s business intelligence module; and UX 3.0, Atypon’s new design language and implementation system for creating modern, consumerized publication websites.
The EContent 100 list identifies the companies that matter most in the digital content industry. It includes high-tech startups as well as established technology leaders like Adobe, Facebook, Google, and Webtrends.
“One of this year’s standout trends was the importance of artificial intelligence,” said Theresa Cramer, the editor of EContent. “Companies in every category are finding new and innovative ways to use AI to improve their products and the end-user experience.”
Atypon’s R&D team has been focused on applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to continually improve search, content personalization, and semantic enrichment, as well as on various forms of single sign-on and non-IP-based authentication methods, all to make end users’ online experience more convenient and productive. The team’s efforts are regularly deployed in the Literatum platform’s three annual releases. The company’s emphasis on research and development is reinforced by an engineering team that comprises more than two-thirds of the company’s 350 employees.
Georgios Papadopoulos, Atypon’s CEO and founder, said, “I’m proud of the Atypon staff and our ongoing success with Literatum, and honored to be counted among such prestigious companies for a second year.”
Literatum, the scholarly and professional publishing industry’s most widely used online publishing platform, is home to more than 12,000 journals, 24 million articles, 175,000 eBooks, and 980 websites for over 2,400 societies and publishers.
