What’s in store at the Atypon Community Meeting in December? We’re glad you asked!

On Day 1, Hisham Shahtout and Michael Markey (Atypon) will start things off with “Tectonic shifts on the web: How can our industry prepare?” In conversation with Paul Tuten (Taylor & Francis), learn what major impending changes in the external environment mean for STM publishing, what’s driving them, and how publishing organizations can respond.

We’ll hear from Patrick Hargitt (Atypon) in “What’s new and what’s next,” about major Literatum developments, and from our topic-specific Community Interest Groups with what’s been on their minds since June.

Then, in “Publishing accessible content: Practical ways to move the needle,” Nina Amato (ACS), Lorenzo Milani (SAGE), and Damita Snow (ASCE) will share practical insights on inclusive design, prioritizing accessibility, best practices and policies to meet accessibility standards, tackling the VPAT process, and more. This session will be  moderated by Rob Posadas (Atypon).

We’ll round out Day 1 with a virtual reception—bring your drinks and snacks of choice and join other attendees for a chat!

Day 2 kicks off with “What technical infrastructure do publishers need to scale OA?” In this session, moderated by Jennifer Kemp (Crossref), we’ll hear from panelists whose organizations are in the midst of the OA transition: Bernd Pulverer (EMBO), Melissa Junior (American Society for Microbiology), and Michael Donaldson (Canadian Science Publishing). As more and more publications are delivered under OA models, what technical infrastructure can help, and what challenges still need addressing, for publishers to expand and scale their own OA programs?

Next we’ll dive into “Making headway on DE&I: Putting intentions into practice.” In this session, moderated by Jacob Wilcock (Atypon), you’ll hear actionable advice and lessons learned from organizations that are leading the way: how to gather data and use it to make improvements, where to go for practical ideas, and the policies and emerging standards that are helping organizations to make real change.

Following a social break in smaller groups, we’ll reconvene for a case study of IEEE’s new vision for improving the author experience, featuring Dawn Melley (IEEE) and Julie Nash (J&J Editorial)

Watch our social media feeds and the Community Meeting page for more session and speaker details to come!
