Several publishers from the Atypon community have gained recognition for website accessibility by being ranked on ASPIRElist, including Taylor & Francis, who rank within the list’s top three. T&F presented their plans and efforts at Atypon’s 2019 Engage User Group conference. Here is a video excerpt of this presentation.

The ASPIRElist is created by searchBOX,  a free service that contains the contact data for over 7,000 institutions, publishers, platforms and vendors. Hundreds of librarians use searchBOX every day to request accessible content for their students and find accessibility statements from third-party providers. ASPIRE publisher data is fully integrated with searchBOX.

ASPIRE List recognizes publishers with helpful accessibility statements, and verifies  publishers’ online content accessibility via crowdsourcing, publisher self-reporting, and ASPIRE verification.

“At Taylor & Francis, we are committed to ensuring all our products and websites are accessible to as wide an audience as possible,” commented Elisabetta O’Connell, Product Manager for T&F Online. “We are very proud of the developments done, in collaboration with Atypon, on Taylor & Francis Online towards conforming with level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and Section 508 Standards of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act. We have made the accessibility of the platform a priority which is now fully embedded in all our processes.”

Other Atypon community publishers ranked highly on the list include: Sage, Wiley, MIT Press, Elsevier, and University of Chicago Press

Relatedly, we are pleased to announce the kickoff of an Accessibility Interest group open to all publishers and partners within the Atypon community. We know that making content accessible to assistive technology is a priority, and we look forward to working with you to understand and support the needs of your constituencies. If you’d like to join, please fill out this quick form indicating your interest and contact details—or drop us a note to learn more about the Interest Groups launched by community members, or to propose one that you’d like to lead or participate in.
